Winnemucca, Nevada to Carson City, Nevada

This was a short ride with my stop in Carson City to visit a friend and colleague at two companies. The road starts out of Winnemucca straight and with an 80 MPH speed limit so it is easy to accumulate miles quickly. I stopped at a rest area for a stretch. The area is known as "Forty Mile Desert" and according to the sign I found it presented some challenges to early settlers. I can easily believe it did.

For quite some time the mountains remained an image in the distance. Eventually reached the mountains and was riding through an area with a few hills.

I did not want to arrive at Jim's house too early so took a detour to Virginia City. I rode up Six Mile Canyon into town. I did not check the distance but I'll assume it is six miles of road, with a 25 MPH speed limit. On two occasions I met sheriff vehicles so obeying the speed limit is probably a good idea. Virginia City is very crowded with little parking to be seen - and this was a week day. I was getting warm and happy to be on my way out.

The road out of Virginia City heading back to the highway makes an enjoyable ride. It is not hampered by the low speed limit and has some nice sweeping turns.
